Calling on all interested parties for an opportunity to take part in some Community Science!
Maryland DNR is looking for volunteers to assist with diamond-backed terrapin headcount surveys around the state.
If spotting and observing our State Reptile sounds like fun then this might be for you! Surveys only require a pair of binoculars and a little bit of patience. If you are interested in learning more about this program, please fill out this form.

MATTS is invited to present information at events throughout the Mid-Atlantic area. As a volunteer, you will join us in setting up and taking down our booth and providing information about turtles/tortoises to attendees of the event. These events range in size from small classroom to large expos.
Frequently pets are surrendered to MATTS. We do not have a facility, but rely on volunteer's homes to short-term (or long-term) foster these chelonians until a forever home can be found. This is a great way for beginners or experienced volunteers to help - MATTS will provide habitats and supplies.
The center of MATTS adoption activities is near Baltimore, MD, yet the Mid-Atlantic stretches across the DelMarVa area. Help is needed to transport chelonians throughout the Mid-Atlantic region and beyond.
We are always looking for new content such as articles, images, artwork, poems or short stories. MATTS serves the general public by providing factually correct information to improve the understanding of turtles, tortoises, and their habitats.
If you are interested in helping with any of the above or generally giving your time to MATTS, please reach out and let us know.
