African Sideneck or African Helmeted turtles are freshwater turtles from west and central Africa. These turtles can vary in size from 9 to 11 inches in length and originate in Africa, ranging from Senegal to the Central African Republic.
These turtles will need a large tank when full grown of at least 75 gallons. As a tropical turtle, African Sidenecks do not hibernate.
Meet Stim the turtle and hear how he was rescued from a box store. His Momma will give us all kinds of trial-and-error tips, saving you a lot of money! You will also learn how to set up and maintain turtle tanks, some of their favorite snacks and food, and the best filter to keep his tank clean meaning more time to enjoy your turtle and less time cleaning his tank. He's fascinating to watch even if you aren't interested in adopting a turtle.
Pelomedusidae is a family of freshwater turtles native to sub-Saharan Africa, with a single species, Pelomedusa subrufa, also found in Yemen. They range in size from 12 to 45 cm (4.7 to 17.7 in) in carapace length and are generally roundish in shape. They are unable to fully withdraw their heads into their shells, instead drawing them to the side and folding them beneath the upper edge of their shells, hence are called African Sideneck turtles.
Today, in this video, I will be setting up a cheap habitat for my African Sideneck Turtle.
