IT IS A COMMON MISCONCEPTION THAT A TURTLE'S SIZE IS LIMITED BY THE SIZE OF ITS ENCLOSURE. This erroneous information  accounts for many turtles being kept in enclosures far too small for a happy and healthy life. Turtle size is determined by its species and gender.

Whether your turtle lives on land or in water, a safe and species-appropriate habitat and proper care are the keys to its health, quality of life, and longevity.

There are many creative ways to make a habitat and often an investment in your time can help offset the size of the investment from your wallet. Hobbyists range from accomplished "DIY" enthusiasts to those who use the latest commercial products and technology. You are only limited by your imagination!

It's vital to understand the components of correct care for your pet in the elements of their habitat, and in their diet, handling, protection, and other environmental considerations. Education and research before acquiring an animal that can live 30+ years is the recipe for a successful start and a happy turtle.
